Glendale police to keep watch on motorcyclists

Glendale police on Sunday plan to patrol areas frequented by motorcyclists in an effort to increase safety and lower the number of injury collisions.

Officers will look for any drivers and riders who are speeding, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol or making illegal turns.

Police plan to also patrol areas where motorcycle-involved crashes often occur.

Speeding, unsafe turning and DUI are the primary causes of motorcycle-involved collisions, according to police.

While motorcycle-related fatalities dropped 37% from 2008 to 2010 in California, they jumped nearly 18% in 2011. Glendale hasn’t logged any fatalities this year.
