Police arrested 12 motorists in Glendale over the weekend as part of an 18-day, countywide crackdown on impaired driving.

Six of the motorists were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol during a checkpoint Friday at Brand Boulevard and Vassar Street, according to Glendale police.

The other six arrests were made Sunday in an operation aimed at drivers who have outstanding DUI-related warrants.

At the checkpoint on Friday, officers from Glendale, San Fernando, Pasadena, Los Angeles and the California Highway Patrol stopped more than 1,100 vehicles, but screened only 105.

Eleven motorists were arrested during the operations in connection with driver’s license violations.

The high enforcement period has resulted in 1,373 arrests countywide —an increase of 115 from 2012 — since it began on Aug. 16, according the anti-DUI task force, known as Avoid the 100.
