Video: Woman slams into Tarzana building after hitting 80 mph

A 25-year-old woman was hospitalized early Thursday after crashing her car into a dry-cleaning business in Tarzana, police said.

Witnesses reported the car was going about 80 mph westbound on Ventura Boulevard about 1 a.m. when it slammed into a business, sending debris down the street and sidewalk.

Police saw the vehicle speeding in Reseda and gave chase. The woman was taken into custody after she lost control and crashed.

Police said they smelled alcohol on the woman’s breath and she was taken to a local hospital, where she was listed in fair condition.

The mangled vehicle -- its engine block was ejected in the crash -- was towed and Ventura Boulevard was reopened in both directions.

Meanwhile, a cleanup operation was underway at the building that was damaged in the collision.

“I guess it could be worse,” the owner of the building said, adding that the structural integrity of the structure was sound. “The city engineer came and said they don’t have to red tag the building.”

No charges had been filed in the incident, police said. An investigation is underway.
