Upgrades planned for Montrose substation
The Glendale Police Department’s Montrose substation closed last week for renovations that include new paint, carpet and office furniture.
Renovations, which are expected to take at least three weeks, will also include new décor and a prominent sign outside the substation in the 3800 block of Ocean View Boulevard, according to Lt. Lola Abrahamian, who was recently assigned to oversee operations for north Glendale.
The renovations were made possible by a $10,000 anonymous donation from a local resident and business owner, police said.
The Montrose substation, staffed by a group of volunteers, is operated at nearly no cost to the department.
In 1996, investigator Tahnee Lightfoot suggested opening the police branch in Montrose, prompting local business owners to step up and pitch in to fund it.
The property owner has allowed Glendale police to conduct business from the small storefront without charge, and the Montrose Shopping Park Assn. has covered utility costs, she said.
Fingerprinting services are offered at the substation, which officers also use to file reports instead of trekking to the police headquarters in downtown Glendale.
