Local, state jobless rates basically hold steady

Unemployment figures for October were basically unchanged at the local and state levels, according to the latest report.

The jobless rate in Burbank remained at 7.6%, while it edged up 0.1% in Glendale to 8.2%, according to statistics released Friday by the California Employment Development Department.

In the La Crescenta-Montrose area and La Canada Flintridge, the unemployment rates were 4.6% and 3.6%, respectively.

Statewide, the jobless rate held steady at 8.7%, which is an improvement from 10.1% a year ago.

Manufacturing employment in Los Angeles County dropped to its lowest level in 23 years, shedding 1,800 jobs, according to the report. Government reported the largest month-over-month expansion, adding 20,000 jobs.
