President Obama in L.A.: Streets to avoid on Day 2 of his visit
Drivers beware: President Obama on Tuesday is scheduled to be crisscrossing the Los Angeles area as he hops from Mid-City to Glendale to Los Angeles International Airport.
After stepping off Air Force One at LAX just after 5:30 p.m. Monday, the president was shuttled via Marine One to the Westside for a pair of fundraisers to benefit Democrats running for Congress, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Obama also met with the family of TSA officer Gerardo Hernandez, who was killed in a violent attack at LAX on Nov. 1, and with two fellow officers wounded by gunfire that day.
On Day 2 of his L.A. visit, the president is scheduled to attend a Democratic Party fundraiser in the morning at the Hancock Park home of Marta Kauffman, creator of the television show “Friends.” In the afternoon, he is set to visit the DreamWorks Animation studio in Glendale to tour the site and deliver a speech about the economy.
Jeffrey Katzenberg, chief executive of DreamWorks Animation, is one of Obama’s biggest contributors and fundraisers.
To give drivers some advance warning, Los Angeles police released a schedule of when certain areas will be affected by the president’s motorcade on Tuesday:
- Mid-City (Fairfax Avenue to Western Avenue and Beverly Boulevard to Pico Boulevard), 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
- Glendale (Riverside Drive, San Fernando Road and Grandview Avenue to North Pacific Avenue; West Kenneth Road to Victory Boulevard, San Fernando Road, 5 and 134 Freeways), 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Streets surrounding Los Angeles International Airport, 1:15 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The president’s trip to Los Angeles is the last stop on a West Coast swing that included events in Seattle and San Francisco. Obama had planned a similar fundraising trip in September, but it was scrapped because of the government shutdown and possible military action in Syria.
