We’re rounding up the top news items in the region:
The U.S. House of Representatives passed a provision yesterday, inserted by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank), that aims to reduce helicopter noise in the airspace over Los Angeles County, including the San Fernando Valley, where residents have complained about the noise for years.
To celebrate ten years of science and discovery that has been accomplished by the twin Mars Exploration rovers Spirit and Opportunity, JPL is taking taking part in a series of talks and events sponsored by NASA and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum throughout the month of January, highlighted by a photographic museum exhibit that runs through Sept. 14.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) will host a town hall meeting next week in La Cañada to discuss the future of the Rim of the Valley national recreation area, which has been under study to determine its potential for federal protection. The event is planned for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22 and will be held at the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, 1930 Foothill Blvd.
Warm, dry and windy conditions caused the National Weather Service to extend red flag warnings for parts of Southern California Wednesday. The warnings, which were set to expire Wednesday evening, will be extended in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, except the Antelope Valley, through Thursday and possibly into Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
