  • An 86-year-old pedestrian who was reportedly struck by a vehicle on Western Avenue, near Glenoaks Boulevard, in Glendale has died after suffering severe head trauma. Abram Mehrabian, 86, was pronounced dead at about 5:30 p.m. Monday at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.

  • Luge athlete Kate Hansen changed Team USA’s momentum heading into the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. The La Cañada High graduate made history on Saturday in Sigulda, Latvia. For the first time since 1997, an American won the World Cup singles race, with Hansen posting a winning time of 1 minute 23.976 seconds over her two runs on Saturday in Sigulda.

  • A 22-year-old Burbank man suspected of beating a Sunland man was released from police custody Monday after posting $500,000 bail. Eric Wang was arrested Saturday on suspicion of attempted murder after police discovered a 22-year-old man on the sidewalk in the 1600 block of West Alameda Avenue with severe upper body and head injuries.

  • One man was dead and another badly injured when a suspected drunk driver drove backwards on the 134 Freeway in Eagle Rock early Sunday, colliding head-on with another vehicle and creating a chain-reaction crash, according to the Los Angeles Times.
