“Abe Lincoln” visits John Marshall Elementary
Abraham Lincoln paid a visit to students at John Marshall Elementary School on Wednesday in the form of actor J.P. Wammack, who told second graders of the early life, presidency and assassination of the nation’s 16th president.

Wammack began his presentation on Lincoln’s early days growing up in a log cabin with access to only a few books, one of them dedicated to the life of George Washington, which he would read by a fire at night after chopping wood to build it.
He also recited the Gettysburg Address, and spoke of the Civil War as “The one where fathers fought against sons, where brothers fought against brothers.”
For the second graders who began studying Lincoln’s life last year while in the first grade, Lincoln’s appearance was a privilege.
“His speech was really important to me,” said 7-year-old Aliyah Gudino.
“The thing that I like about him…he was doing right things,” she said of his stance against slavery.
