Detectives seek details in Glendale robbery
Detectives are seeking information in connection with a robbery Tuesday near a Glendale motel, where a 26-year-old man was reportedly accosted by a machete-wielding man.
The Glendale man had just wrapped up a visit with friends at about 4:45 p.m., and was standing in an alley near the parking lot of the Glen Capri Inn & Suites in the 6700 block of San Fernando Road when he noticed a man walking toward him, according to Glendale police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.
The man was reportedly about 4 feet away when he suddenly brandished an 18-inch-long machete in his right hand.
He reportedly raised the machete toward the man’s chest, but kept it 6 to 8 inches away.
He then demanded all of his money, prompting the man to give up his wallet containing $500, Lightfoot said.
The machete-wielding man quickly walked along Thompson Avenue and entered a black Volkswagen Jetta, which had paper license plates with the letter “S” written in yellow or orange.
He was described as a bald Latino with a sparse mustache, about 30 years old, 5 feet 8 tall and 230 pounds. He wore a black-hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.
Police said the robbery does not appear to be connected to a similar incident which occurred Jan. 23 near the Glendale Police Department headquarters.
During that incident, an 18-year-old Tujunga man was approached by a man who brandished a knife and swung it at him in a stabbing motion. The knife cut the teen, but the man fled the scene.
