Power outage shuts down GCC campus

Glendale Community College sustained a power outage Tuesday afternoon that led officials to cancel night classes for the evening.

The cause of the outage, which occurred around mid-afternoon, was a faulty insulator on the switch gear of the library building, according to Dan Padilla, manager of operations and maintenance for Glendale Community College.

At 5 p.m., officials took precaution to cancel the night classes to keep students from entering the campus upon nightfall with several buildings without electricity, said Wendy Grove, a public information officer for the college.

Crews were still working to solve the issue that didn’t affect the college’s main administration building, Grove said.

Padilla said they expected power to return by 9 p.m. Tuesday.

“It’ll be too late to bring the classes back in tonight, but we should be all good to go by tomorrow,” he said.

Students will be alerted to updates on the power outage through a campus wide electronic alert system.
