Video] Man allegedly drove in Northridge with pipe bomb
A man police say was driving in Northridge on Wednesday with a pipe bomb between his feet on the floorboard was arrested on suspicion of recklessly possessing a destructive device.
After David Patton, 55, was pulled over near Devonshire Street and Reseda Boulevard for allegedly driving erratically, police reported finding burglary tools inside the SUV, the Los Angeles Times reported. They also said he appeared to be “a little bit under the influence of narcotics,” said LAPD Capt. Stephen Carmona.
After Patton was taken into custody on suspicion of possessing narcotics, officers examined the SUV and found the pipe bomb.
A bomb squad used a robot to remove the device and detonate it nearby, Carmona said. No injuries were reported.
Devonshire Street and Reseda Boulevard were temporarily closed to traffic for several blocks.
Patton was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail, police said.
