• Former Councilman John Drayman, who has been convicted of embezzlement, is expected to be released from Los Angeles County jail on Sept. 26, which would cut the one-year sentence he received on Monday roughly in half.
  
• The release of a refrigerant material used to cool items at a Ralphs grocery store in Glendale caused evacuation of the store on Tuesday afternoon, and an estimated $50,000 in damage, authorities said.
  
• Three Burbank men accused in connection with a double-stabbing at the Santa Monica Pier in January will stand trial on attempted murder and assault charges a judge ruled this week.
  
• The staffing of nurses in Burbank Unified is expected to be discussed during a special school board meeting on Friday and the district’s head nurse plans to tell board members that additional nursing staff is needed.
  
• A free women-only self-defense class scheduled for this Wednesday at Glendale Community College has been postponed to an undetermined date as the city attorney continues to review the legality of excluding men from the lessons.
  

• A reputed gang member accused of trying to kill two Glendale men during a carjacking and subsequent freeway crash was ordered to stand trial Monday on attempted murder charges.
