Glendale Assn. for the Retarded renamed

Share

Glendale Assn. for the Retarded has a new name: The Campbell Center.

Nonprofit leaders decided to rebrand the organization in honor of the daughter of their founders, Janice Elaine Campbell, as the once-accepted medical diagnosis of mental retardation has gained a derogatory connotation since the nonprofit’s founding in 1954.

The Campbell Center aims to provide adults with developmental disabilities opportunities to achieve greater independence. While the organization’s address at 6512 San Fernando Road and phone number, (818)242-2434, remain the same, it does also have a new website, thecampbell.org.
