Letter: Dope shouldn’t get the silent treatment

Do you want to be subjected to the second-hand smoke of dope smokers? Do you want your children to be subjected to the second-hand smoke of dope smokers? If your answer is no, then I fully agree with you.

On several occasions have I been subjected to this disgusting and harmful smoke while I simply walk down the streets of Glendale. On one occasion I was passing a building on Broadway and there were two people directly in front of the door to an office building smoking dope. I inquired with the receptionist in the lobby if there was some reason why she did not call the police. She told me that she had tried to report it in the past and was told by the police that because it was not cigarettes there was nothing they could do.

I find this whole matter both offensive and in fact dangerous as I and many others do not want experience the bad effects of these drugs. I suggest that a simple solution to this problem is that we should apply the laws of cigarettes and alcohol to these dope smokers. My understanding is that you cannot have open containers of alcohol in public places such as on the street so why should you smoke dope on the street? There are a myriad of smoking laws that would apply. If these fools want this stuff legalized then let them be subject to the same laws that apply to other legal substances. Then perhaps we can walk the streets of Glendale without fear of having to inhale second-hand dope.
