Letter: Paula Devine would think things through

I wholeheartedly agree with the News-Press statement on Saturday, May 17, that Paula Devine’s style suggests she would be someone to better collaborate with her fellow council members. In the time I have known her, she has demonstrated a willingness to listen to both sides of issues before rushing into a decision. I call this a thoughtful and open-minded approach, and it comes from her years of being active in our community.
I do not agree with the News-Press statement that because she allegedly “dodged” the question about allowing increased enrollment at an Armenian school, she should not receive a vote since people may not know where she stands. This is a thoughtful approach because there are many facts to consider: traffic impacts, neighborhood concerns on quality of life depending on where the school is located, and other issues. Her reasoning that she did not want to flip-flop on this question is valid. She obviously needed more information.
One of my professors in college pointed out that men go into politics for the power and glory while women go in because they want to get things done. I think we need a woman like Paula. She should be given a chance. After all, this office term is only for 10 months. If the public does not like what she is doing, she can always be voted out of office.
