Letter: Pedestrians are too nonchalant

As more accidents occur in Glendale and pedestrians are hit, everyone needs to change how they walk and drive. Pedestrians no longer pay attention to the lights or the “walk” signals. Even when the big red hand is up to “stop” I still see people walk and ignore it. This impedes all the drivers who are trying to make and finish left- and right-hand turns — which disrupts everyone on the road. That makes some drivers angry and then they try to go around your car, only to then see the pedestrian slowly walking in the crosswalk.

Many walkers have earphones on and are completely ignoring the traffic around them. They just walk and don’t even stop at the corners to look for oncoming traffic. Others cross illegally because they don’t want to walk to the corner or to a crosswalk, so they just jaywalk. I’ve seen this so many times, even right in front of City Hall and the police station. When will the police crack down on those who are walking illegally? Perhaps that will help with both the drivers and the pedestrians.
