On Campus at GCC: Start planning today for summer study abroad

Glendale Community College will offer study-abroad excursions to Ghana, Ireland/England and Spain this coming summer.

The college has offered programs in the past to several destinations including Paris, Prague, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, Italy, Greece, Bali, Spain and Ireland.

The Ghana program costs $2,350, plus airfare and college tuition/fees. Students will meet on campus July 15 through 18 and will be in Ghana from July 21 through Aug. 8. The college credit courses will be “Art 280 – Current Techniques and Trends in Studio Arts” and “Music 048 – Music Field Studies.”

Students will take part in several excursions including visits to art galleries, the Kakum Forest Canopy Walk as well as drumming and dancing performances.

Study abroad in Ireland and England costs $2,895, plus air and college fees. Students will be on campus June 17 through 25 and abroad June 27 through July 21. Courses will include English field studies, “Political Science 110 - Contemporary World Problems” and “Ethnic Studies 111 – European Immigrants in the U.S. Excursions,” including Stonehenge, Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands and Newgrange.

The program in Spain costs $2,595, plus air fare and college fees. Classes will meet on campus June 17 through 21 and abroad June 23 through July 17. Courses will include “History 101 – History of Western Europe,” “Humanities 117 – Creativity, Culture and Society: Kaleidoscope” and Spanish field studies. There are trips planned to Toledo, Cordoba and Granada, as well as several museums.

Open registration at GCC continues

Open registration will continue through Feb. 14 for the spring 2019 semester at Glendale Community College. The semester will begin Feb. 19.

The college application is online at glendale.edu/apply. New students must submit an application for admission before registering for courses.

The college offers a live chat for general application and registration information. Go to glendale.edu and click on “live chat.”

This spring, there will be courses in subjects ranging from accounting to welding. There are still openings in several classes.

For those interested in media arts, there are courses offered in TV studio production, motion picture production, audio production, cinema aesthetics, motion picture editing, writing for media and independent media production.

Courses in animation and game design are also available as part of the art program, including “Art 201 – Drawing for Animation,” “Art 220 – Introduction to Motion Graphics” and “Art 270 – 3D Game Level Design.”
