Up-and-down answer from Griem

It’s almost a first — I actually agree with a comment by the Rev. Bryan Griem responding to the “Looking forward?” topic in the In Theory section, Nov. 18. He says, “Obama’s our president, and as such we should afford him the respectability of the office and commit to praying for him…”

Well said! But then he unfortunately obliterates my feeling of praise by continuing, “…even if he [Obama] despises us.” What an absolutely absurd comment and reversal of the truth. I have seen no sign that our thoughtful president despises any of us. But Griem’s comment is, in all likelihood, a mirror image of his attitude and is certainly that of the many others who irrationally despise the president. I’m going to cry again.
