Letter: Weaver is correct about statue

Re: the Korean Comfort Women statue. My hat goes off to Dave Weaver. Mayor Weaver is apparently the only council member who was willing to stand tall in a difficult situation. I think most of us have come to realize that erring on the side of political correctness, as our council members did in this instance, has rarely benefited our city or our country.

This statue is just one more example of politicians perpetuating hatred and animosity in order to appear “caring.”

Throughout the world’s history of genocide, the Holocaust and other atrocities, it is not the people we should blame, it is the leaders that gave the orders. Ask yourselves, do statues and monuments designed to condemn a people accomplish anything more than sustaining the glowing coals of hatred? Thank God for people like Dave Weaver.
