College Football Preview: Glendale Community College vs. L.A. Valley College

LAST WEEK: Glendale had bye; L.A. Valley defeated Compton, 31-18

OUTLOOK: Glendale returns to action after recording its first win of the season, a come-from-behind 41-27 conference home victory against Compton on Oct. 19. The Vaqueros turned to their rushing duo of Elijah Washington (St. Francis High) and Tre Fugate to top Compton. Fugate finished with 87 yards rushing in 14 carries and scored three touchdowns. Washington had 120 yards rushing in 20 carries. The Vaqueros collected 234 yards on the ground. Michael Stanford registered 12 tackles to pave the way on defense for Glendale, which overcame a 21-10 deficit in the third quarter. Glendale will participate in two more conference games after facing Valley, going against visiting Santa Ana on Nov. 9 before traveling to L.A. Southwest on Nov. 16. L.A. Valley never trailed during its road game against Compton on Saturday. The Monarchs led, 18-6, at halftime and extended the lead to 27-6 after the third quarter. L.A. Valley quarterback Andrew Galvan completed nine of 16 passes for 60 yards, to go along with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Harry Hobson and Leon Courtney each caught a touchdown pass. Running back Julien Moore rushed for 80 yards in five carries and scored a touchdown for the Monarchs, who ended a two-game losing streak.

SOMETHING INTERESTING: Former Glendale assistant coach Lester Towns is in his first season as head coach at L.A. Valley. Towns, who was also the defensive coordinator at Glendale, played linebacker for the Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins from 2000-05 and finished with 234 tackles.
