Khashakyan KO highlights night full of local victories

Alfred Khashakyan continued his mixed-martial-arts path of destruction Friday night in Studio City.

The potent striker won his fourth straight bout, all via knockout, with a first-round stoppage of Vitor Oristanio in the co-main event of Lights Out Promotions/Bash Boxing’s Fight Night 2 at the Sportsmen’s Lodge Event Center.

Khashakyan improved to 4-1 and is 4-0 since training at the Glendale Fighting Club. Oristanio dropped to 1-3.

It was Khashakyan’s second win this year following a victory Feb. 20 at the first Fight Night event.

Glendale Fighting Club’s Levon Sargsyan also collected his first career win as he earned a majority decision over James Acosta. Sargsyan improved to 1-2, while Acosta dropped to 0-4.

Main Event Gym’s Armen Bakanyan (1-3-1) fought to a three-round draw with Derion Chapman (0-2-1).

In amateur action, Main Event’s Tigran Grigoryan and David Yegiazaryan each earned unanimous decision wins, while GFC’s Leon Shahbazyan won via rear-naked choke submission.

The local fighters – all Armenian – went 5-0-1 on the night, which is of further significance as Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day is April 24. This coming Friday will mark the 100th anniversary.
