Locals receive league recognition

The following are odds and ends from the local sports scene.

SIX SELECTED TO ALL-PACIFIC LEAGUE TEAM

Two members each from the Crescenta Valley High, Glendale and Hoover girls’ volleyball team were recently selected to the All-Pacific League team.

Those named to the second team were senior outside hitter Allison Reik of Crescenta Valley, junior outside hitter Kirsten Cabarong of Glendale and Hoover senior outside hitter Shaina Barrett.

Receiving honorable mention were senior middle blocker Noel Wong of Crescenta Valley, senior setter Gabrielle Magpantay of Glendale and junior opposite hitter Nicole Mairzakhanian of Hoover.

PAIR OF REBELS GRAB ACCOLADES

While the Flintridge Prep girls’ volleyball team finished in last place in the Prep League, two players from the Rebels were recognized for their work on the court.

Freshman outside hitter Lauren Stiles and senior libero/outside hitter Bryn McFadden were selected to the all-league second team.

Stiles finished with 202 kills and 169 digs. McFadden registered 297 digs.

Flintridge Prep finished 4-18-2, 1-11 in league for seventh place.

GAELS PICK UP HONORS

Though the Holy Family volleyball team won just one match this season, two members from the team were named to the All-Horizon League’s second team.

Junior setter Rianne Sanchez finished with 208 assists, 150 digs and 26 blocks for Holy Family, which finished 1-23, 1-7 in league for fifth place. Junior outside hitter Dominique Ornelas, a junior outside hitter, collected 80 kills, 70 digs and 39 blocks.
