One last chance for Glendale High alumnus

In what was the final of four preseason games with the Los Angeles Chargers, Glendale High alumnus Michael Davis tallied one tackle at cornerback in his team’s 23-13 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara on Thursday evening.

The Chargers finished a rough preseason in which they posted a 1-3 record.

Davis’ one tackle capped his four-game stint with nine tackles and two assists. That tied him for fifth on the squad.

Los Angeles has until 1 p.m. on Saturday to cut its 90-man roster to 53 players as the team will open the regular season Monday, Sept. 11 at Denver.

Davis is seen by many NFL prognosticators as being right on the bubble.

Hoover unable to find another opponent

Following the surprising cancellation of its game Friday night against Sotomayor, Hoover High’s football team was looking for an opponent for the upcoming week, when its bye was scheduled.

However, according to Hoover athletic director Jack Van Patten on Friday, the Tornadoes were unable to secure an opponent and will play out a nine-game season.

Sotomayor, a Los Angeles City Section school, canceled its game with Hoover due to the school’s four-day weekend for Labor Day, stating that it would not have available administrators for the game.
