Sports Roundup: Glendale girls’ basketball knocks off Burroughs in nailbiter

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Glendale 30, Burroughs 29: Mary Markaryan made two free throws with 1 minute 7 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the host Nitros a big Pacific League win Wednesday. Markaryan’s free throws secured the Nitros (11-7, 3-1 in league) the lead for good.

Meri Chebishian paced Glendale with a team-high 13 points and teammate Jillian Yanai contributed four points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

Crescenta Valley 69, Muir 31: Sarah Perez finished with a team-high 19 points Wednesday to lift the visiting Falcons to a Pacific League victory. Crescenta Valley improved to 13-4, 4-0 in league.

Pacifica Christian 40, Glendale Adventist Academy 36 (overtime): The Cougars fell in a nonleague nailbiter on the road Wednesday.

Taylor Nicholas had eight points for GAA (1-4).

Pasadena 50, Hoover 21: The visiting Tornadoes dropped a Pacific League contest Wednesday. Hoover is 1-12, 0-4 in league.

Ramona Convent 39, Holy Family 21: The Gaels opened Horizon League play on the road Tuesday with a defeat, falling to 0-7.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Prep 78, McAuliffe 41: The Rebels received 26 points from Majeed Ismail in the nonleague win Wednesday.

AJ Nicassio added 13 points for Flintridge Prep (6-9).

Burroughs 81, Glendale 70: The Nitros lost a high-scoring Pacific League tilt on the road Wednesday and dropped to 13-4, 1-3 in league.

Muir 66, Crescenta Valley 57: Crescenta Valley fell Wednesday in a Pacific League home contest. The Falcons (10-7, 3-1 in league) received 20 points from Arman Pezeshkian.

Pasadena 92, Hoover 37: Hoover lost its seventh straight game and gave up a season-high in points in Wednesday’s Pacific League loss at home. The Tornadoes fell to 4-13, 0-4 in league.

Alemany 84, St. Francis 50: St. Francis dropped a Mission League road game Wednesday. The Golden Knights are 9-6, 0-2 in league.

BOYS’ SOCCER

St. Francis 6, Alemany 1: The visiting Golden Knights rolled to a Mission League win Wednesday.

St. Francis (8-4-1, 2-0 in league) got two goals apiece from Colton Ramirez and Sebastyan Enriquez.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Chadwick 5, Flintridge Prep 4: The Rebels lost a Prep League nailbiter on the road Wednesday.

Prep dropped to 2-6, 1-2 in league.
