Sports Roundup: Glendale Community College baseball leads off conference with victory

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Glendale Community College 13, Victor Valley College 2: Glendale began Western State Conference East Division play Thursday with a win at Stengel Field.

The Vaqueros (12-9) got three hits apiece from Tom Tabak, Jake Selco and Jacon Gribbin. Tabak and Gribbin each drove in two runs.

Starting pitcher Chris Davidson went six scoreless innings, striking out seven and allowing three hits.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Victor Valley College 15, Glendale Community College 12: Host Glendale dropped a Western State Conference East Division contest Thursday at the Glendale Sports Complex. The Vaqueros dipped to 3-17-1, 0-4 in the division.

MEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 6, Bakersfield College 3: Glendale picked up a Western Sstate Conference home win Thursday.

Glendale (2-9, 1-6 in conference) got singles wins from David Precido (6-1, 6-1), Natsuki Abe (6-2, 6-3), Daniel Garcia (6-1, 7-5) and Sam Azaryan (6-2, 7-6(6-8) 6-2).

The Vaqueros received doubles victories from Kevin Orellana and David Precido (8-5) and Garcia and Natsuki Abe (8-6).

BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

St. Francis 105, Crespi 20: The host Golden Knights cruised to a Mission League victory Thursday afternoon.

The Golden Knights (1-1) won 13 of 15 events with Matthew Molina capturing the 100-meter dash (11.51 seconds) and the long jump (20 feet, 6 inches), Stuart Serventi claimed the 800 meters (2:13.47) and 1,600 (4:57.29) and Blake Howard took home the 110-meter hurdles (16.68) and pole vault (13 feet).

Colton Ramirez claimed the 200-meter dash (24.29), Christian Loprieta won the 400 meter (55.51), Grant James captured the 300 hurdles (45.50), Alex Jordan finished first in the high jump (5-10) and Gabriel Grbavac took home the shot put (46-1 1/2), while the 400-meter (45.57) and 1,600-meter (3:49.27) relay teams also won.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Flintridge Prep 3, Gabrielino 0: AJ Nicassio contributed 14 kills and five aces Thursday to lead the Rebels to a 25-18, 25-18, 25-8 monleague road win.

Flintridge Prep (5-0) got seven kills apiece from Majeed Ismail and Garrett Gaines.

St. Francis 3, Chaminade 0: Joey Thompson finished with 36 assists Thursday to power St. Francis to a 25-15, 25-13, 25-14 Mission League home win.

The Golden Knights (7-6, 2-2 in league) received nine kills apiece from Valentin Medina and Brian Castro and eight from Michael Dumansky.

BASEBALL

Canyon 17, Glendale 1: Glendale (2-4-1) fell in a nonleague home game Thursday.

BOYS’ GOLF

St. Francis 191, Alemany 260: St. Francis received two-over-par 38s from Henry Fitzhugh, Lake Kim, Jacob Smissen and Will Coontz on Thursday to record a Mission League win at Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena. The Golden Knights are 2-1 overall and in league.

Flintridge Prep 226, Azusa 267: Ben Sacks carded a one-over-par 37 on Thursday to lift the Rebels (6-0) to a nonleague win at Altadena Golf Course.

Crescenta Valley in Pacific League match: The Falcons took third with a 424 in Thursday’s event at Griffith Park’s Harding Course. Crescenta Valley got a seven-over-par 79 from Peter Kim.

SOFTBALL

Notre Dame Academy 16, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 7: The Tologs (3-2) lost a nonleague home contest Thursday.
