Sports Roundup: Glendale Community College baseball off to 3-0 conference start

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Glendale Community College 9, Antelope Valley 5: The Vaqueros remain undefeated in Western State Conference East Division play with a victory Tuesday.

Third baseman Troy Viola turned in quite an effort, finishing four for six with a home run, six runs batted in and two runs scored. Second baseman Lucas Sakay added two RBI and two walks. Tom Tabak scored two runs for GCC (14-9, 3-0), while Kevin Holcomb tossed two scoreless innings with no hits allowed and three strikeouts to picks up the win.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Glendale Community College 15, West Los Angeles 1: The Vaqueros picked up their first conference victory on the road Saturday afternoon.

Third baseman Samantha Medrano doubled twice, drove in three runs and scored three times for Glendale (4-18-1, 1-4), while left fielder Crystal Quinones added three RBI and Madison Stillwell doubled, scored three runs and drove in two runs.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Crescenta Valley 3, Pasadena 0: The host Falcons posted a 25-2, 25-11, 25-18 Pacific League victory Tuesday. Crescenta Valley improved to 8-1, 2-0 in league.

Arcadia 3, Glendale 0: Visiting Glendale suffered a 25-16, 25-9, 26-24 Pacific League defeat Tuesday.

Orangewood Academy 3, Glendale Adventist Academy 0: The Cougars dropped to 0-2 after a nonleague defeat on Tuesday afternoon.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Crescenta Valley 11, Marlborough 5: Lexi Ballard and Madeline Heeg each scored three goals Tuesday to pace the Falcons (2-2) in a nonleague road match.

Lizzie Hales added two goals and goalkeeper Phoebe Crowther finished with nine saves for Crescenta Valley.

Glendale 10, Mira Costa 5: Glendale got five goals from Xcaret Salvador and four goals and three assists from Rachel Fong to register a nonleague home win Tuesday.

Goalkeeper Lili Baker added 12 saves for Glendale (7-2).

Glendale 18, St. Monica Academy 5: Rachel Fong finished with five goals and Xcaret Salvador and Erika Lopez added four each Monday to lift the host Nitros to a nonleague victory. Goalkeeper Lili Barker had five saves for Glendale.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Hart 102, Crescenta Valley 68: The Falcons (1-1) lost Tuesday in a nonleague road meet at Santa Clarita Aquatics Center.

Crescenta Valley got first-place efforts from Kimmie Park in the 50-yard freestyle (25.09 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (54.54). Amanda Peterson captured the 100 breaststroke (1:07.99) for the Falcons.

BOYS’ GOLF

La Cañada 192, St. Francis 209: The Golden Knights fell Monday in a nonleague match at Brookside Golf Course No. 1 in Pasadena.

Lake Kim carded a one-over-par 37 for St. Francis, which received a 38 from Henry Fitzhugh.

BASEBALL

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 6, St. Francis 5: Visiting St. Francis began Mission League play Monday with a heartbreaking defeat. St. Francis held a 5-1 lead before Notre Dame rallied for five runs in the sixth inning.

St. Francis received a quality effort from starting pitcher Chris Stamos, who gave up two hits in 5 1/3 innings. Matthew Odom had two hits for St. Francis and Mikey Kane drove in two runs.

SOFTBALL

Alverno 14, Flintridge Prep 3: Host Flintridge Prep began its season Monday with a nonleague loss. The Rebels got two hits, including a home run, from Emma Stellar and two doubles from Libby Penn.
