Sports Roundup: St. Francis soccer clinches postseason berth
BOYS’ SOCCER
St. Francis 2, Crespi 1: Alex Jordan scored the winning goal with about 10 minutes left in the second half to lift host St. Francis to a Mission League victory Wednesday.
With the win, St. Francis (10-8-4, 5-4-3 in league) clinched a playoff spot.
Ian Odermatt scored a first-half goal for St. Francis off an assist from Jordan.
“It’s a game that we needed to win and we responded,” St. Francis coach Glen Appels said.
WRESTLING
Hoover in Rio Hondo League Tournament: Andrew Shin captured a league championship in the 182-pound weight class Wednesday at Monrovia High.
In all, seven Hoover athletes moved on to the CIF Southern Section Division on Feb. 8-9 at Brea Olinda.
Louis Socito took second in the 113-pound division. Finishing third were Zach Acosta (120), Ed Markosian (126), Harut Mutafyan (145), Davit Vardanian (152) and Andrew West (195).
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Chaminade 3, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 2: Jillian Willis scored two goals for the visiting Tologs in a Mission League defeat.
Flintridge Sacred Heart dipped to 7-4-3, 3-2-3 in league. It placed third in league.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Flintridge Prep 51, Chadwick 45: Flintridge Prep picked up a Prep League home victory Wednesday.
The Rebels are 14-10, 5-2 in league.
St. Francis 91, Alemany 82: Andre Henry had a triple-double with 22 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists and Dennis Flowers III and Jason Gallant had 20 points each Wednesday to spur host St. Francis to a victory in the Mission League Tournament.
The Golden Knights are 22-6, 3-4 in league.
GIRLS’ WATER POLO
Chadwick 6, Flintridge Prep 5: Visiting Flintridge Prep fell Wednesday in a Prep League match.
The Rebels (9-3 in league) finished tied for second in league with Chadwick.
Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 9, Louisville 3: The Tologs saw their season come to a close Wednesday following a win in a consolation match of the Mission League Tournament at Sherman Oaks Notre Dame High.
Flintridge Sacred Heart (3-5 in league) received three goals from Bree Layseca and two each from Abby Kim and Amanda Ramirez.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Glendale Community College 78, Victor Valley College 54: Cheyenne Jankulovski finished with 13 points and four assists Wednesday to help visiting Glendale post a Western State Conference East Division win.
The Vaqueros (16-4, 4-0 in the division) received 12 points apiece from Tess Oakley-Stilson, Marlene Salazar and Gloria Bianchi, who contributed five assists.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Victor Valley College 86, Glendale Community College 82: Glendale dropped a Western State Conference East Division road game Wednesday.
The Vaqueros (9-13, 2-2 in the division) got 28 points and seven rebounds from Isaac Etter, 26 points from Andre Banton and 20 points and six assists from Eric Ting.
