Sports Roundup: Crescenta Valley boys’ basketball advances to quarterfinals
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Crescenta Valley 69, Culver City 60: Andreyas Boghossian finished with 24 points and Tyler Carlson added 20 to propel Crescenta Valley (25-4) to a CIF Southern Section Division II-A second-round road win Tuesday.
Fourth-seeded Crescenta Valley, which took second in the Pacific League, will compete in a quarterfinal road game against Compton (22-8, second in Moore League) at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The Falcons got 14 points from Alex Zoharalen, five from Harout Tahanian and three each from Danny Khani and Chuck Meyer.
BASEBALL
St. Francis 3, Chatsworth 2: St. Francis (1-1) earned a victory Tuesday in an Easton Tournament contest.
Brendan Durfee finished with three hits for the Golden Knights.
St. Francis starting pitcher Ethan Sanders went 6 1/3 innings, yielding two hits and four runs to get the win. Reliever Kiko Roble picked up the save.
Glendale 2, Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences 0: Glendale started its season Tuesday with a home victory in the Southern California Invitational.
Syarting pitcher Nate Burke gave up two hits in five innings to notch the victory.
SOFTBALL
La Salle 3, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 0: Flintridge Sacred Heart began its season Tuesday with a loss in a San Marino High Tournament contest.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Glendale Community College 8, Victor Valley College 1: Visiting Glendale posted a Western State Conference win Tuesday.
The Vaqueros picked up singles victories from Gabriella Contratto, 6-1, 6-4, Elen Ghazaryan, 6-0, 6-0, Maria Villegas, 6-0, 6-0, and Marissa Deciga, 6-0, 6-0. Glendale won a set by default.
In doubles, Glendale received wins from Isabella Chacon and Ghazaryan, 8-1, and Jennifer Goldsbury and Karina Ramirez, 8-1. The Vaqueros got another win via forfeit.
MEN’S TENNIS
Glendale Community College 5, Orange Coast College 4: Host Glendale (5-1) notched a nonconference win Tuesday to stretch its winning streak to five.
Glendale Community College 9, Imperial Valley College 0: Glendale rolled to a nonconference home win Saturday.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Saddleback Community College 6, Glendale Community College 3: Glendale dropped a nonconference road contest Tuesday.
The Vaqueros (3-2) held a 3-0 lead entering the fifth inning before Saddleback scored four runs in the inning to take a 4-3 lead.
Glendale received four hits from Tom Tabak.
MEN’S GOLF
Glendale Community College in Western State Conference match: The Vaqueros finished fourth at Monday’s event with a 420 at Bakersfield Country Club.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Glendale Community College 61, Barstow College 43: Sylvia Vartazarian had 19 points and eight rebounds Saturday to lift visiting Glendale to a Western State Conference East Division victory.
The Vaqueros (18-4, 6-0 in the division) received 13 points from Tess Oakley-Stilson.
