Sports Roundup: Evans Ks 21 in no-hitter for St. Monica Academy softball

SOFTBALL
St. Monica Academy 3, San Gabriel Mission 2: Yamila Evans was phenomenal on Tuesday, throwing a no-hitter with a whopping 21 strikeouts to lead the Crusaders to a nonleague win.
Evans walked four to lead to Mission’s runs, but countered offensively with two hits and a run batted in.
Sophia Vega also had two hits and an RBI and Kayla Grimm added a run batted in for St. Monica (2-1), which is ranked eighth in CIF Southern Section Division VII.
Flintridge Prep 1, Rio Hondo Prep 0: Therese Oshiro twirled a two-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and Alex Tutwiler had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Rebels to a Prep League victory Tuesday.
Tutwiler drove in Maia Cohen with a single. Oshiro and Flintridge Prep (1-1 in league) improved to 3-1.
BASEBALL
Flintridge Prep 11, Los Angeles 1: Flintridge Prep (3-5) cruised to an intersectional road win Tuesday.
Crespi 7, St. Francis 4: The Golden Knights (1-4) suffered a Mission League-opening loss Tuesday at the Glendale Sports Complex.
Christian Falcon finished with four hits for the Golden Knights, who got two apiece from Grant Victor and Hayden Byrnes.
St. John Bosco 5,3, Crescenta Valley 1,0: Crescenta Valley (3-4) was swept in a nonleague doubleheader at Stengel Field on Tuesday.
Adrian Damla finished with a combined three hits for the Falcons.
BOYS’ LACROSSE
St. Francis 11, Crespi 10: The Golden Knights started Mission League action on the road Tuesday by notching the program’s first-ever league triumph.
Bobby Gazmarian scored the winning goal with 36 seconds remaining. Hagan Harvey had four goals for the Golden Knights, who got four from Jacob De La Hoya and two from Evan Swayne.
On Saturday, St. Francis (5-2) picked up a 14-2 nonleague road win against Dunn.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Chaminade 10, St. Francis 8: The Golden Knights (3-3) began Mission League play Tuesday with a road loss at Warner Center Tennis Courts in Woodland Hills.
West Ranch 14, Crescenta Valley 4: Host Crescenta Valley (5-3) fell Tuesday in a nonleague match.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
La Cañada 3, Flintridge Prep 0: The host Rebels saw the Spartans record a 25-16, 25-23, 25-21 nonleague win Tuesday.
Flintridge Prep (6-1) received 12 kills from Dante Fregoso, 31 assists from Aldridge Khin and nine kills and four blocks from Miles Johnson.
BOYS’ GOLF
Maranatha 213, Flintridge Prep 227: The Rebels (5-1) fell Monday in a nonleague match at Altadena Golf Course. Jonah Sacks had a six-over-par 42 for Flintridge Prep.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Glendale Community College 5, Bakersfield College 3: Jared Akins had three hits and scored two runs to ignite the visiting Vaqueros on Tuesday in a Western State Conference South Division contest. Glendale improved to 13-5, 5-1 in the division.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Glendale Community College 8, Ventura College 1: Host Glendale registered a Western State Conference victory Tuesday.
Glendale (12-3, 8-0 in conference) got singles wins from Tsukimi Ono (6-1, 6-0), Meredy Gharabegi (6-2, 6-3), Veronika Galstyan (6-1, 6-2), Kanako Kihara (6-1, 6-1) and Melody Emmanouilidi (6-2, 6-1).
The Vaqueros received doubles victories from Viktoriya Shumakova and Meredy Gharabegi (9-8(7-2), Galstyan and Ono (8-6) and Kihar and Alexa Mendez (8-0).
MEN’S TENNIS
Ventura College 9, Glendale Community College 0: Visiting Glendale dropped a Western State Conference match Tuesday.
The Vaqueros are 4-8, 2-5 in conference.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Antelope Valley College 16, 24, Glendale Community College 8, 11: Glendale dropped a Western State Conference South Division road doubleheader Tuesday. The Vaqueros are 3-9-1, 0-3 in the division.
