CV, Prep aim for wins

GLENDALE — The following are CIF playoff previews pertaining to area high school teams.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Edison at Crescenta Valley, 2 p.m.: Fresh off finishing second in the Pacific League, the Falcons (13-4) figure to have a difficult test in the first round of the Division II playoffs.

Crescenta Valley will meet up against an Edison squad that went 12-4 and finished second in the Sunset League behind top-seeded Newport Harbor.

Crescenta Valley is led by singles player Erin LeVoir, who finished runner-up in the league finals last week at Pasadena High. The Falcons will also have the services of their red-hot doubles consisting of Sarah Ali and Karen Ataian, who won the league doubles crown.

The winner of the Crescenta Valley-Edison match will meet San Marino, which finished first in the Rio Hondo League, or Dos Pueblos in a second-round match Saturday.

Flintridge Prep at Mission Viejo, 2 p.m.: The Rebels (14-4) began their playoff drive Tuesday with an 11-7 victory against Glendale in a Division II wild-card match at Scholl Canyon Tennis Center.

Flintridge Prep turned to Kira Lee, the reigning All-Area Singles Player of the Year, and Janise to fend off Glendale. Lee and Vargas each won two sets before being substituted. The Rebels also got two singles victories from Ali Preiss.

Mission Viejo (7-5) finished first in the Sea View League.

The winner between Flintridge Prep and Mission Viejo will compete in a second-round match against top-seeded Newport Harbor, which won the Sunset League crown, or Esperanza.
