Glendale falls in league debut

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

La Cañada 12, Glendale 2: The visiting Nitros fell Thursday in their Prep League debut at La Cañada High. Glendale (0-3-1) received one goal apiece from Elena Pierce Jena Nance.

BASEBALL

Crescenta Valley 4, La Serna 0: Troy Mulcahey threw five no-hit innings and hit two home runs for four runs batted in during a win at the Glendora Tournament. Kyle Murray tossed two shutout innings of relief for the Falcons (2-1).

St. Francis 5, Burroughs 2: Brandon Van Horn drove in two runs Thursday to lead the Golden Knights (3-1) in an Easton Tournament game at Jackie Robinson Field. Relief pitcher Ryuta Eguchi (1-0) picked up the win for St. Francis, which won its third straight game.

Glendale 11, Bellarmine-Jefferson 1 (6 innings): Pitcher Jason Marquez allowed one run and four hits for the host Nitros (2-0) on Thursday in a nonleague contest. Dylan Howard, Evan Martin and Daniel Aragon each collected a pair of hits for Glendale. Aragon drove in two runs.

Flintridge Prep 13, Muir 11: The Rebels (3-0) overcame an 11-2 deficit by scoring 11 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to pick up a victory in the Duarte Tournament. The game was called in the middle of the sixth because of a tournament-imposed time limit. Karlsen Termini had a bases-loaded double to tie the game at 11 and Alex Sierra put the Rebels ahead with a run-scoring single.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 7, Allan Hancock College 2: Sevana Zargarian, Samantha Sismundo, Phoebe Minette, Mayra Alvarez and Katherine Akmakji all won their singles sets for the Vaqueros in a Western State Conference home match. Zargarian and Sismundo each won, 6-0, 6-0. Minette won, 6-3, 6-3, while Alvarez picked up 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 victories. Akmakji earned 6-1, 6-4 wins. In doubles, the Vaqueros (2-5, 1-4 in conference) got an 8-1 win from Zargarian and Sismundo and an 8-3 victory from Concebida and Minette.

BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Golden Valley 88, Crescenta Valley 48: Parker Averill won a pair of events Thursday for the host Falcons in a nonleague met. Averill captured the 100- and 200-meter races in 10.9 seconds and 22.75, respectively. Andrew Roide won the high jump in six feet for Crescenta Valley.

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Golden Valley 98.5, Crescenta Valley 37.5: Cali King won the 800-meter race for the Falcons in 2 minutes 29.57 seconds on Thursday in a nonleague home meet. Anneke Kakebeen captured the 3,200 in 11:47.70 for Crescenta Valley, which got a victory in the triple jump from Laura White (31 feet 31/2 inches).

BOYS’ TENNIS

Arcadia 15, Hoover 3: The visiting Tornadoes fell in Thursday’s Pacific League contest. Hoover (3-2, 2-2 in league) got a 6-3 singles win from Oleg Simonyan. It also got a 6-1, 6-3 doubles win from Ejmin Mehranian and Vardan Adzhinyan.
