Glendale gets first win
SOFTBALL
Glendale 11, Pasadena 1 (5 innings): The Nitros picked up their first win of the season in their Pacific League opener at home on Tuesday.
Crescenta Valley 33, Muir 0 (5 innings): The Falcons opened Pacific League play with a five-inning win on the road on Tuesday.
Amber Alsamman had three hits and Claire Ortiz had two hits for Crescenta Valley (7-1, 1-0).
BASEBALL
Saugus 6, St. Francis 5: Joey Malham tossed five scoreless innings for the Golden Knights, but the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead and the Centurions hit a walk-off grand slam to hand St. Francis a nonleague road loss Tuesday.
Jeff Garavaglia went two for four for St. Francis (4-4).
Webb, 2, Flintridge Prep 0: The visiting Rebels surrendered a pair of unearned runs Tuesday in a Prep League road contest. Pitcher Royce Park struck out eight and allowed four hits in a complete-game effort.
Karlsen Termini finished with three hits, including two doubles, for Flintridge Prep (3-3, 0-2 in league). Brenden McKiernan added two hits for the Rebels, who left six runners in scoring position.
BOYS’ GOLF
Viewpoint 193, Flintridge Prep 221: The Rebels received a four-over-par 39 on Tuesday from Jack Bouchard, but it wasn’t enough in a Prep League match at Altadena Golf Course.
Richard Lo and Justin Farshidi had 44s for Flintridge Prep (3-8, 1-3 in league).
GIRLS’ SWIMMING
Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 57, Mayfield 37: The Tologs swept all eleven races in Tuesday’s nonleague meet to improve to 2-2 on the season.
Emily Balog won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 breaststroke and Meg Ryan won the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, while Katie Altmayer was also a double-winner in the 200- and 500 freestyle.
Eva Dulcich won the 50 freestyle and Haley Shewfelt won the 100 butterfly.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Crescenta Valley 10, Pasadena 8: Justin Chung swept, 6-0, 6-1, 6-1, and Chris Kim swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-3, to lead the Falcons (3-5, 1-4) to a Pacific League road win Tuesday.
Loyola 13, St. Francis 5: John Kazanjian and Alex Kavakian each won two sets for the Golden Knights (3-3, 1-2) in a Mission League loss at Fremont Tennis Center on Tuesday.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Santa Barbara City College 6, Glendale Community College 3: Visiting Glendale college got a singles win each from Sevana Zargarian and Samantha Sismundo on Tuesday in a Western State Conference match. Zargarian earned a 6-4, 7-5 victory, while Sismundo posted a 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 win.
Zargarian and Sismundo paired up for a 9-7 win for Glendale, which fell to 3-7, 1-5 in conference.
