Tornadoes turn back Bulldogs
BOYS’ TENNIS
Hoover 10, Burbank 8: The host Tornadoes picked up seven wins in singles Tuesday to net a Pacific League win. Hoover (6-4, 4-4 in league) got a 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 sweep from Ejmin Mehranian. Oleg Simonyan won two sets for Hoover (6-4, 6-0), as did Emile Ohanyan (6-3, 6-2).
In doubles, Sage Barry and Ron Glandian teamed up for two wins (6-4, 6-4). Yeprem Chavdarian and Vardan Adzhinyan also got a 6-3 win for the Tornadoes.
Glendale 17, Pasadena 1: The Nitros improved to 9-2 and 6-1 in the Pacific League with a dominant home victory on Tuesday.
In doubles, Alex Levin and Edgar Hakobyan swept, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2, Jeff Asano and Elliot Kim swept, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0, and Sam Sarian and Rene Glandian also posted a sweep, 6-4, 6-2, 6-0.
In singles, Glendale got a 6-2, 6-0, 6-3 sweep from Nick Shamma and a 6-4, 6-0, 6-0 sweep from Jon Azizian.
BOYS’ GOLF
Crescenta Valley 200, Pasadena 237: Adrian Chia shot a two-over-par 37 on Tuesday to share medalist honors and help the Falcons to a nonleague win Tuesday at Altadena Golf Course.
Paul Park and John Lee shot a 38 and 39, respectively, for the Falcons.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Glendale Community College 9, Citrus College 3: John Schwer finished with four hits, including a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning, to lift the Vaqueros to a Western State Conference Southern Division win at Stengel Field. Schwer’s home run gave Glendale college (15-9, 6-5 in the division) a 6-3 advantage.
Sean Spear collected three hits for the Vaqueros.
MEN’S TENNIS
L.A. Pierce 6, Glendale Community College 3: The visiting Vaqueros fell Tuesday in a Western State Conference match. Alex Sarkissian won two sets in singles (6-0, 6-0) for the Vaqueros (8-7, 4-2 in conference).
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Santa Monica City College 9, Glendale Community College 0: The host Vaqueros fell Tuesday in a Western State Conference match. Glendale college dropped to 3-8, 1-6 in conference.
BASEBALL
Crescenta Valley 7, Hoover 0: Kyle Pomeroy pitching four shutout innings and struck out six on Monday to spark the Falcons in a Pacific League contest at Stengel Field. Ted Boeke went the final three innings to earn the save.
Cole Currie, Troy Mulcahey and Elliot Surrey each hit a home run for Crescenta Valley.
Burbank 11, Glendale 0: The host Nitros finished with three hits in Monday’s Pacific League game.
SOFTBALL
Burbank 10, Glendale 3: The visiting Nitros dropped to 1-1 in Pacific League on Monday at McCambridge Park.
MEN’S GOLF
Vaqueros in Western State Conference match: Michael Timpson carded a one-under-par 71 on Monday to help the Vaqueros place third in a conference match at San Dimas Golf Course.
Brennan Amirkhizi and Vincent Lam each had 73s for Glendale college, which tied for third with Allan Hancock College with a 373, but won the tiebreaker based on the results of the sixth score. Phillip Gonzales had a 77 for the Vaqueros, who got a 79 from Aaron Fernandez.
