Vaqueros finish second in conference

MEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 5, Bakersfield College 3: The Vaqueros finished second in the Western State Conference with a road win Thursday.

Glendale college (9-8, 5-3 in conference) got singles victories from Alex Sarkissian (6-0, 6-0), Trevor Campbell (7-5, 6-3), Grayson Frazier (6-3, 6-1) and Andre Ratavousian (6-4, 7-5). Campbell and Sarkissian teamed up for an 8-3 doubles win.

The Vaqueros will now await to see if they will participate in the Southern California Regionals, which will begin Tuesday.

“Bakersfield has got a good team,” Glendale college Coach Bob MacKay said. “This is a great win for us and it’s great to get second place.

“We got a big win from Andre to get us that fourth point.”

SOFTBALL

Flintridge Prep 12, Chadwick 2: Pitcher Denise van der Goot struck out 13 and Sydney Golombek contributed three hits Thursday to lead the visiting Rebels in a Prep League game.

Chelsea Johnson drove in three runs for the Rebels, who improved to 7-2, 5-0 in league.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Flintridge Prep 3, Webb 0: Kenyatta Smith contributed 17 kills and four blocks Thursday to lead the visiting Rebels to a 25-15, 25-15, 25-16 Prep League win Thursday.

Kieren Mulroy finished with 29 assists for Flintridge Prep (7-12, 1-2 in league), while Sam Honch added seven kills.

Notre Dame 3, St. Francis 2: The Golden Knights fell in a Mission League heartbreaker on Thursday, 20-25, 23-25, 27-25, 25-23, 15-11.

Chris Thompson had 56 assists, while Wesley Coffey had 26 kills and Michael Bacall and Charles McCarthy had 16 and 15 kills, respectively. St. Francis is 6-6 overall and 2-6 in league.

BOYS’ GOLF

Webb 213, Flintridge Prep 223, Granada Hills Hillcrest Christian 278: Jack Bouchard shot a five-over-par 40 on Thursday for the Rebels in a Prep League match at Marshall Canyon Golf Course.

Justin Farshidi fired a 41 for the Rebels (8-11, 4-4 in league). Will Guthrie carded a 44 for the Rebels, who got a 45 from Richard Lo and a 53 from Peter Chodas.
