Knights stay in playoff hunt

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

St. Francis 3, Chaminade 2: St. Francis staved off elimination from playoff contention with a dramatic 26-24, 24-26, 22-25, 25-23, 15-7 victory Tuesday.

Kenny Leaven keyed a team effort with nine blocks to go with three kills for the Golden Knights. Tyler Korzun added seven kills, three blocks and two aces, while Chris Thompson had 51 assists for St. Francis.

Michael Bacall, Welsey Coffey and Charles McCarthy had 16, 15 and 14 kills, respectively, for the Golden Knights.

Flintridge Prep 3, Webb 0: The Rebels got nine kills and two blocks from Kenyatta Smith and six kills and two blocks from Jared Norsworthy in a 25-15, 25-12, 25-15 Prep League win Tuesday.

Flintridge Prep (9-13, 3-4), which also got 23 assists from Kieren Mulroy, can clinch a playoff berth with a win over Rio Hondo Prep on Friday.

Burroughs 3, Glendale 0: The host Nitros fell Tuesday in a Pacific League match, 25-16, 25-8, 25-9. The Indians, under Coach Joel Brinton, a Crescenta Valley High graduate, clinched the league title outright.

Yeshiva 3, Glendale Adventist Academy 0: The visiting Cougars suffered a 25-10, 25-17, 25-22 Liberty League loss Tuesday. Glendale Adventist dropped to 0-12, 0-9 in league.

BOYS GOLF

St. Francis in Mission League prelims: The Golden Knights finished with a team score of 410 to place sixth in the seven-team competition Tuesday at Harding Golf Course. The Golden Knights were fifth in league on the season.

Richie Maloof of St. Francis carded an even-par 72 in the prelims and advanced to today’s individual final. St. Francis also received a 75 from Vince De Pinto, who also will compete today. The top seven individuals will move on to the CIF Individual Tournament on May 16.

SOFTBALL

Arcadia 11, Hoover 5: Lulu Multini had two hits and drove in two runs Tuesday for the visiting Tornadoes in a Pacific League contest.

Kenya Buckley and Kaitlyn Williams each had a run-scoring triple for Hoover, which fell to 8-12, 3-7 in league.

BASEBALL

Arcadia 10, Hoover 0 (five innings): Cameron Doran and Anthony Cuccinelo each had a hit Tuesday for the host Tornadoes in a Pacific League game. Hoover dropped to 6-13, 4-6 in league.

Muir 9, Glendale 8: The Nitros were unable to hold an 8-1 lead in Tuesday’s Pacific League contest at Muir.
