Hoover drops a pair at Paraclete

Rosamond 3, Hoover 1: The Tornadoes closed out the Paraclete Tournament with a loss on Saturday despite an 11-strikeout performance by sophomore pitcher Breana Aguilera.

Kaitlyn Williams went two for three in the game with a run batted in, scoring Diana Palafox, who had tripled.

Earlier Saturday, Hoover lost, 7-5, to Montclair. Katie Gates pitched for the Tornadoes, allowing just one earned run and striking out seven.

Kenya Buckley went two for three with a home run for the Tornadoes, who got a two for four performance with an RBI from Williams.

WOMENS’ TRACK AND FIELD

The Glendale Community College track and field team is sending eight athletes to the Southern California Finals after strong showings in the Southern California Preliminaries on Friday.

Catlin Kelly, Cecilia Nicolas and Diana Sanchez qualified in the steeplechase after logging times of 11 minutes and 33.90 seconds, 11:33.84 and 11:39.24, respectively, in the preliminaries to advance to the next round of competition.

Alyssa Selve (4:46.19), Laura Pleumer (4:46.27) and Angela Martinez (4:47.18) moved on in the 1500. Carissa Porter advanced in the 100 (12.05) and 200 (24.84), as did Selve in the 800 (2:19.08) and Karen Rosas in the 10K (38:38.78).

MENS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Neil Jones had a big day for Glendale Community College, qualifying for the Southern California Finals in three different events in the Southern California Preliminaries on Friday. His times of 3 minutes 56.16 seconds in the 1500 meters and 1:53.96 in the 800 qualified him for the Finals. He also qualified in the 4x400 relay with Harold Tabora, Adrian Anderson and Trent Williams (3:19.85).

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Several members of the Holy Family girls’ track and field team impressed at the Horizon League Finals on Friday. Alejandra Hernandez, a junior, ran the 100 meters in 13.1 seconds and 200 in 28 seconds. She will represent Holy Family in the Division IV Preliminaries next week at Carpinteria High after going undefeated in the 100 and 200 this year, her two main events.

Gladys Hernandez, a senior, took third in the 1600 with a time of 6:23.03, and second in the 3200 (14.26.9). Sophomore Briana Russo finished third in league in the 800 after running it in 3:02.3. Kristen Gaer, a senior, walked away with a third-place finish in the 300 low hurdles with a time of 1:00.4.
