GCC takes second in opener

WOMEN’S GOLF

Vaqueros place second at season-opening invitational: Glendale Community College carded a two-round score of 620 at the two-day South Coast Invitational in Ventura to take second in the 10-team event. The event was held at Buenaventura Golf Course on Sunday and at Olivas Links Golf Course on Monday.

Palomar College won the event with a 607. The Vaqueros shot 305 on Sunday to hold a one-stroke lead over Palomar.

The Vaqueros received an even-par 72 from Thanawan Sriratchaya on Sunday and Monday to finish with a 154. Teammate Vicanda Ma had a 78 and a 76 for a 154.

Hannah Lee of Glendale carded an opening-round 76 and followed with a 79 for 155. Pattraporn Silawanna had a 79 and 78 for the Vaqueros.

“We had a real good start with the first day,” Glendale Coach Greg Osbourne said. “I’m ecstatic with the way we’ve started our season.”

College of the Canyons finished third in the tournament with a 637, followed by Irvine Valley (640) and Santa Barbara City College (648).

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Glendale Community College 3, Santa Barbara City College 2: The Vaqueros received 16 kills and three aces from Cami Martin, 38 assists from Lalia Souktani and Yessenia Ortega contributed 13 kills Friday in a 25-14, 25-19, 23-25, 19-25, 15-6 win in the Pasadena City College Quad Tournament.

Glendale college (1-1) opened the tournament with a 25-10, 25-16, 25-17 loss to Pasadena.
