Kaplanyan sparks Tornadoes to road win

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Hoover 18, Culver City 17: Hakop Kaplanyan finished with a team-high six goals Thursday to propel the visiting Tornadoes (3-3) in a nonleague match.

Hoover, tied for ninth with Crescenta Valley in the latest CIF Southern Section Division V poll, received three goals from Vahe Avalyan and 11 saves from Sevada Khodaverdi.

Glendale 11, South Pasadena 7: Armand Momdzhyan registered six goals and Shant Tokatyan and Martin Chatalyan added two apiece Thursday to lead the Nitros, ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division V, in a Los Altos Tournament match. Glendale improved to 4-2-1.

Flintridge Prep 11, Godinez 4: The Rebels (3-1) won a pair of matches Thursday at the Los Altos Tournament. Ethan Vandeventer finished with three goals and Alex Blaine and Diego Delgado each added two.

Flintridge Prep opened with a 12-7 win against Hemet. Vandeventer collected six goals.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Crescenta Valley 3, Pasadena 2: Kira Guarino had 17 kills and Payton Wheeler added 26 digs Thursday to lead Crescenta Valley to a 23-25, 25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 15-8 Pacific League-opening road win.

Crescenta Valley (2-1) got 23 assists from Eunice Lee and nine kills from Allison Reik.

Notre Dame Academy 3, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 0: Colleen Degnan recorded 17 digs in Thursday’s 25-17, 25-17, 25-21 nonleague road loss. Sacred Heart dropped to 3-3.

Viewpoint 3, Flintridge Prep 0: Katrina Boyd collected 17 digs Thursday for the Rebels in a 25-14, 25-15, 25-18 nonleague home loss. Kate Woolley added six kills for Flintridge Prep (2-3).

GIRLS’ GOLF

Crescenta Valley 218, San Marino 234: Jocelyn Chia of Crescenta Valley fired a one-over-par 37 on Thursday in a nonleague match at Brookside Golf Course No. 2. Audrey Chung had a 39 for the Falcons, who got a 44 from Alice Yoon.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Burroughs 11, Hoover 7: The visiting Tornadoes fell in a Pacific League road match Thursday. Hoover singles players Meg Mouradian and Petra Beglarian each recorded 6-0, 6-0 victories. Kiso Adzhemyan and Diana Karapetyan teamed up for a 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 doubles win for Hoover (2-2, 1-1 in league).

La Cañada 18, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 0: The visiting Tologs (1-2) fell Wednesday in a nonleague match.
