Vaqs take third at invitational

Taking a break from competing in the Western State Conference, the members of the Glendale Community College women’s golf team headed for scenic Morro Bay to compete in a 36-hole invitational.

The Vaqueros came away with additional confidence after they took third in the 15-team North-South Invitational on Monday afternoon at Morro Bay Golf Course.

College of the Canyons won the tournament with a 621, followed by Palomar (623). Mount San Antonio College was fourth (637).

Glendale college finished the two-day event shooting 634. The Vaqueros carded a 311 to record the lowest score in Monday’s competition, edging College of the Canyons and Palomar College by one stroke each.

“It’s great to take third, but we have confidence after having the best score Monday,” said Glendale college Coach Greg Osbourne, whose team is in first place in conference. “We were fourth after Sunday and the question was how would we do Monday?”

Also of significance was Pattraporn Silawanna of Glendale shooting an even-par 72 on Monday for low-medalist honors on the day and finishing second overall with a 150. Teammate Hannah Lee had an 81 on Monday and finished with a 163. Glendale’s Vicanda Ma finished with a 79 on Monday and had a two-round score of 163.

Also competing for the Vaqueros were Thanawan Sriratchaya and Diana Hernandez. Sriratchaya had a 79 on Monday for a two-round score of 158 and Hernandez shot an 81 on Monday to finish with a two-round tally of 173.
