Kaplanyan power Tornadoes to league win

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Hoover 19, Burroughs 7: Hakop Kaplanyan finished with a match-high 11 goals Thursday to lead the visiting Tornadoes to a Pacific League victory at Burroughs.

Hoover improved to 14-4, 4-0 in league to stay in a first-place tie with Glendale, with Ryan Moguel, Vahe Avalyan and David Pogossian all scoring two goals.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Glendale 3, Muir 0: The visiting Nitros picked up a 25-13, 25-8, 25-5 Pacific League win Thursday. Glendale improved to 3-5 in league.

Burroughs 3, Crescenta Valley 0: Kira Guarino collected 17 kills Thursday for the visiting Falcons in a 25-14, 25-15, 25-20 Pacific League loss. Crescenta Valley (6-5, 5-4 in league) received 22 assists from Payton Wheeler and nine kills from Allison Reik.

Arcadia 3, Hoover 0: Elizabeth Dardov registered a team-high eight kills Thursday in the Tornadoes’ 25-15, 25-14, 25-12 Pacific League home loss. Shaina Barrett finished with seven kills for Hoover.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Crescenta Valley 18, Pasadena 0: Selin Auvzarian swept, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, to lead the Falcons to a Pacific League home win on Thursday.

Alexa Gregorian (6-1, 6-0, 6-1) and Sarah Yaghoubi (6-4, 6-3) also performed well for Crescenta Valley (10-2, 7-2).

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 13, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 5: The Tologs received two wins from singles player Emily Katz, 6-0, 6-0, in Thursday’s Mission League match at Fremont Tennis Center. Flintridge Sacred Heart dropped to 2-5, 1-4 in league.
