Falcons to go for Gold

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Crescenta Valley 2, L.A. Baptist 0: The Falcons won their final pool-play match, 25-18, 25-18, on Friday night in the opening round of their host tournament to finish second in Pool B and secure a Gold Division playoff berth for today’s final round, which begins at 10:30 a.m.

Crescenta Valley split its first two matches. It fell to South Hills, 24-26, 25-14, 15-4 before besting Van Nuys, 25-23, 24-26, 15-13.

Viewpoint 3, Glendale Adventist Academy 0: Glendale Adventist put up a fight in the final game, racking up 22 points, but was still swept by Viewpoint, 25-14, 25-12, 25-22, in a Liberty League match Thursday. Andrea Blake had a team high 13 kills for the Cougars.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Webb 15, Flintridge Prep 6: The Rebels fought to keep it close, but Webb pulled away in the second half of a Prep League match Thursday. Ethan Vandeventer led the Rebels with three goals and teammate Jamie Walker registered two.

Flintridge Prep recorded a 9-3 league win against La Salle on Wednesday. Vandeventer paced Flintridge Prep with three goals and teammate Carlo Sivilotti added two.

Flintridge Prep is 13-10, 4-5 in league.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Crescenta Valley 14, Hoover 4: The Falcons finished out the regular season Thursday with a Pacific League victory.

Emily Borkowski and Karen Ataian, CV’s Nos. 1 and 2 singles players, respectively, each recorded sweeps. Ataian didn’t lose a game and Borkowski won, 6-2, 6-0, 6-1. The Falcons’ top doubles team of Viktoriya Shumakova and Jackie Dilanchian recorded a sweep, 6-0, 6-1, 6-2.

It a nonleague match Wednesday, Crescenta Valley defeated La Cañada, 15-3. Borkowski and Ataian swept in singles, as did Shumakova and Dilanchian in doubles for the Falcons (15-2, 10-2 in league).
