Hoover girls grab first ‘W’

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Hoover 35, South El Monte 30: The Tornadoes picked up their first win of the season Tuesday in a pool-play game of the South El Monte Tournament behind 15 points from Kariz Alberto.

Providence 58, Holy Family 18: The Gaels fell to 0-3 with a loss on Wednesday in the Viewpoint Tournament.

Jennifer Rodriguez had eight points for the Gaels.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Prep 62, Newbury Park 57: The Rebels evened their record at 2-2 with a win Wednesday night at the Falcon Classic.

Kory Hamane and Jedrick Eugenio each had 18 points, while Chadd Cosse turned in nine.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Crescenta Valley 16, Louisville 3: Sabrina Hatzer scored the first of her five straight goals with 3:18 left in the first period to break a 2-2 tie and begin a 14-goal Falcons run.

Hatzer had seven goals for CV (7-0) in the nonleague road win on Wednesday.

Katie Benson added three goals and Elissa Arnold had two. Gabriel Isaacson had nine saves, splitting time with Maggie Connell, who had four.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Crescenta Valley 5, Crossroads 2: Reigning All-Area Boys’ Soccer Player of the Year Pavle Atanackovic tallied a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Falcons to their first win of the season on Tuesday night.

Erick Trejo also turned in a stellar day for the Falcons (1-0-2) with two goals and an assist.
