Prep girls win in PKs

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Flintridge Prep 0, Don Lugo (3-0): The Rebels, ranked ninth in CIF Southern Section Division III, defeated Don Lugo on penalty kicks in the first round of the Ontario Christian Tournament.

Abby Letts scored the shootout clincher after Casey Cousineau had made a tremendous diving save to lead to the win for the Rebels (5-1). Kate Lyon and Kaelin King also had PK scores, while Don Lugo’s first two players missed the net on their attempts.

The Rebels then won in the quarterfinals, 1-0, against Valley Christian on a goal by Arielle Baptiste.

Cousineau, who had four saves against Don Lugo, had three saves en route to her fourth shutout of the season.

BOYS’ SOCCER

St. Francis 1, St. Augustine’s 1: The Golden Knights battled to a draw in their Nike Southern California Classic opener Tuesday. Luca Coppola anchored St. Francis in goal with nine saves and Matt Laterza scored the Golden Knights’ only goal of the game.

Things didn’t go as well for St. Francis in its second game of the day against San Pasqual. The Golden Knights (1-5-3) fell, 6-1, with Brookes Treidler scoring their lone goal.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Renaissance Academy 68, Don Lugo 53: The Wildcats improved to 10-2 and advanced to the semifinals of the Nogales Tournament on Tuesday behind 25 points and 10 rebounds from Jessy Cantinol and 21 points from Vince DeGuzman.

Crescenta Valley 66, Silverado 60: The Falcons rallied from a 17-point second-quarter deficit to defeated hand Silverado (8-1), the 16th-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division I-AA, its first loss of the season on Tuesday in the Palm Springs Desert Heat Classic.

The Falcons (8-1), ranked sixth in Division I-A, play Canoga Park today at 1 p.m.

Christian Misi paced CV with 27 points and 11 rebounds, while Tade Keshishyan had 19 points, with four triples, Cole Currie had 11 points and five assists and Davis Dragovich pulled down 12 boards.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Crescenta Valley 65, Costa Mesa 16: The Falcons rolled right over the tournament host in their Costa Mesa Winter Classic opener Tuesday.

Ella Stepanian had a game-high 17 points for Crescenta Valley. Lindsey Heckmann and Samira Seraji had 10 points each for the Falcons (6-3).

Moorpark 58, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 40: The Tologs fell in their La Cañada New Year’s Ball Tournament opener at La Cañada High Tuesday. The loss drops Sacred Heart’s record to an even 5-5.
