All-Area Girls’ Volleyball First Team

Micaela Anderson, Junior, Outside Hitter, La Cañada

The 6-foot-1 attacker averaged four kills per game and totaled 309 kills, 61 digs and 50 aces this season while winning the Rio Hondo League co-Most Valuable Player of the Year award. Anderson led the Spartans to a league championship and into the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division II-AA Playoffs.

Haley De Sales, Freshman, Outside Hitter, La Salle

The Lancers’ newcomer thrived at both the right side and outside this season. De Sales averaged 2.7 kills and 1.8 digs per game in finishing with 297 kills, 204 digs, 92 blocks and 19 aces. De Sales was named both a Del Rey League and CIF Southern Section Division II-AA first-teamer as La Salle advanced to the divisional finals.

Kathryn Haderlein, Senior, Setter, La Salle

Haderlein keyed an offense with six players who averaged 1.5 kills per game by averaging 9.4 assists and 1.9 digs per game and finishing with 1, 048 assists, 210 digs, 50 kills, 49 blocks and 44 aces. Haderlein was named the Del Rey League Most Valuable Player and a CIF Southern Section Division II-AA first-teamer.

Caitlin Hall, Junior, Outside Hitter, St. Monica Academy

Hall proved to be one of the division’s and area’s elite hitters after averaging 5.0 kills and 2.5 blocks per game this season. Hall was named the International League Most Valuable Player and a CIF Southern Section Division V-A first-teamer after leading the Crusaders to an undefeated league title and the team’s first berth in the divisional semifinals.

Caroline Knop, Sophomore, Libero, La Salle

Knop was the Lancers’ top defender and concluded the season averaging 5.8 digs per game and finishing with 646 digs overall. For her efforts, Knop was named to the CIF Southern Section Division II-AA first team and helped lead the Lancers to an undefeated Del Rey League championship for a second straight season.

Megan Stephenson, Senior, Outside Hitter, Burroughs

The senior was the Indians’ heart and soul and concluded a brilliant season in which she tallied 337 kills, 117 digs and 27 aces. Stephenson was selected the Pacific League Most Valuable Player and a CIF Southern Section Division II-A first-teamer in propelling the Indians to their first league title since 2007.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Tiare Tuitama, La Salle

The first-year coach guided La Salle (30-7-1) to an undefeated Del Rey League title before her Lancers advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division II-AA title match by upsetting top-seeded South Torrance in a dominating semifinal sweep. La Salle also won its first-ever state playoff match in the CIF State Division II first round.
