Vaqs rout Rio Hondo

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 8, Rio Hondo College 1: The Vaqueros improved to 2-1 with a convincing nonconference home win Thursday.

Sofia Tavitian recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win for Glendale College, which received a 6-1, 6-2 win from Sevana Zargarian and a 6-1, 6-2 victory from Samantha Sismundo. Katherine Akmakji picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory for the Vaqueros, who received a 6-2, 6-2 win from Zar Chavdarian.

Zargarian and Sismundo teamed up for an 8-1 doubles victory for the Vaqueros, who got an 8-2 win from Akmakji and Tavitian and an 8-2 victory from Brianna Hayes and Chavdarian.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Bakersfield College 67, Glendale Community College 64: Nick Rhodes finished with 22 points, six rebounds and four assists Wednesday for the host Vaqueros in a Western State Conference South Division contest. Glendale college (10-14, 2-6 in the division) received eight points apiece from Nate Bryant and Sammy Darling.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Bakersfield College 72, Glendale Community College 58: Lidia Rivas registered 14 points and eight rebounds Wednesday for the Vaqueros in a Western State Conference South Division home game. Michelle Eclar added 10 rebounds and four assists for Glendale college, which dropped to 6-16, 2-6 in the division.
