Locals prep for postseason

The following are previews of today’s CIF Southern Section division playoff games involving local teams.

BOYS’ SOCCER

St. Francis at Upland, 3 p.m.: The Golden Knights (7-8-8) will begin the Division I playoffs by making the 40-mile journey to Upland.

St. Francis, which advanced to the quarterfinals last season, took third in the Mission League. Upland (13-6-2) captured the Baseline League championship.

The winner of the St. Francis-Upland contest will meet Channel League champion Ventura or Agoura, which took third in the Marmonte League, in a second-round match Tuesday.

Laguna Beach at Crescenta Valley, 3 p.m.: Fresh off winning its third Pacific League championship in a row, Crescenta Valley (16-0-6) will begin its attempt to win the program’s first CIF crown. The Falcons advanced to the quarterfinals last season.

Laguna Beach (9-6-3) posted a 2-1 wild-card victory against El Segundo on Tuesday. Laguna Beach received an at-large berth out of the Orange Coast League.

The winner will face Diamond Bar or Whittier in a second-round match Tuesday.

Flintridge Prep at Ontario Christian, 3 p.m.: Flintridge Prep (8-7-1) opened the Division VI playoffs Tuesday with a 3-2 wild-card road victory against Yucca Valley. Flintridge Prep received a pair of goals from Zady Al-Marayati and one from Cole Rademacher.

The Rebels will have a much more difficult task when they face top-seeded Ontario Christian. Ontario Christian (18-3-1) won the Ambassador League championship.

The winner will face Tarbut V’ Torah, which took the San Joaquin League title, or Crossroads in a second-round match Tuesday.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy at Muir, 7 p.m.: The Tologs, who advanced to the quarterfinals a season ago, will travel about two miles for their Division IV-AA first-round contest. Flintridge Sacred Heart (8-18) received an at-large berth out of the Mission League. Fifth-seeded Muir (25-3) won the Pacific League title.

The winner will take on 12th-seeded St. Anthony or Chadwick in a second-round contest Saturday.

Flintridge Prep at St. Genevieve, 7 p.m.: Flintridge Prep (7-17) received an at-large berth from the Prep League and will face eighth-seeded St. Genevieve (16-5), the third-place finisher out of the Santa Cruz League, in the Division V-AA playoffs. The winner will face either ninth-seeded Aquinas or Bishop Union on Saturday in a second-round game.

Bishop Diego vs. Holy Family at Bishop Conaty-Loretto, 4 p.m.: After taking second in the Horizon League, the host Gaels (5-18) figure to have a tough task in their Division 5AA first-round game against 12th-seeded Bishop Diego (9-17).

Bishop Diego received an at-large berth from theTri-ValleyLeague.

The winner will play Saturday against fifth-seeded St. Margaret’s or Saddleback Valley Christian.
