WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Glendale Community College in Western State Conference Relays: The Vaqueros’ 1,600-meter spring medley team Nandi Watson, Geena Person, Angela Martinez, Lilia Asserian won in 4 minutes 18.02 seconds on Friday at Citrus College. Glendale also received first-place finishes from Angela Martinez in the 3,000 (10:51.97) and Justice Shank in the high jump at 5 feet 4 inches.

Glendale’s 4x800 relay team of Cecilia Nicolas, Zulma Herrera, Charlene Quintanilla, Grace Zamudio took second (10:04.53).

MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Glendale Community College in Western State Conference Relays: The Vaqueros had several first-place efforts Friday at Citrus College. Glendale’s quartet of Miguel Flores, Daniel Munoz, Mario Castillo and Mizrael Mendez won the distance medley in 10 minutes 19.23 seconds. The 4x800 relay of Flores, Alec Nelson, Issac Diosdado and Castillo won in 8:09.92

Jason Ahn of Glendale took first in the javelin with a throw of 169 feet 11 inches. Glendale’s Vladimir Diaz was second in the 3,000 (8:55.19).

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Glendale Community College 13, Moorpark College 8: Starting pitcher Greg Astor allowed one run and two hits in five innings Friday to lead the visiting Vaqueros (7-3) in a nonconference contest. Robert DeSantiago had a two-run double for Glendale, which won for the second time this season at Moorpark, to give the Vaqueros a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Edgar Montes had a three-run single in the second to extend the lead to 6-0.

On Tuesday, the visiting Vaqueros stole nine bases en route to a 10-4 nonconference victory against Cerritos. Chris Stroh hit a home run for the Vaqueros, who also got a two-run double from Cody Heaton.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 5, Bakersfield College 4: The visiting Vaqueros (2-2) began Western State Conference action with a victory Thursday. Glendale received singles victories from Sevana Zargarian (6-4, 6-1), Sofia Tavitian (6-0, 6-1) and Samantha Sismundo (6-1, 6-1). Zargarian worked with Sismundo to earn an 8-1 doubles win for the Vaqueros, who also got an 8-4 victory from Tavitian and Phoebe Minette.

MEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 8, Bakersfield College 1: The host Vaqueros cruised to an easy win in their Western State Conference opener Thursday. Trevor Campbell got things started with a 6-1, 6-1 singles win for the Vaqueros, who also received singles victories from Grayson Frazier (6-1, 6-2), Andre Ratavousian (6-1, 6-0), Francisco Ochoa-Garcia (6-2, 7-5) and Mario Ruiz (6-2, 6-2). Campbell teamed with Frazier to net an 8-0 doubles victory for Glendale, which got a 9-8 (7-5) win from Ruiz and Ratavousian and an 8-5 victory from Eric Khanlarian and Rick Ivynian.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Glendale Community College sweeps Oxnard College: The Vaqueros (11-5) swept Oxnard, 8-1, 8-3, on Thursday in a nonconference doubleheader at Glendale Community College.

BASEBALL

North Hollywood 8, Hoover 6 (nine innings): The host Tornadoes opened their season Friday with a loss in the Southern California Invitational. Juan Carbajal had three hits for Hoover, which got two apiece from Jonathan Ramos and Kevin Mendoza.

Simi Valley 5, St. Francis 2: Tynan Holmstrom had a run-scoring double for the Golden Knights in their season opener Friday in the Easton Tournament at Jackie Robinson Field.
