Third CV Can Games on tap
The following are odds and ends from the local sports scene.
CV CAN
GAMES SET
CV CAN — the non-profit La Crescenta-based Crescenta Valley Committed to Athletic Needs organization — will present the third annual CV CAN Games on Saturday at Crescenta Valley High with roughly 150 Special Olympics athletes from the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley and Glendale and Burbank areas set to compete.
After an 8 a.m. registration period, Olympic gold medalist and California Special Olympics founding father Rafer Johnson will open the games as its master of ceremonies at 9 a.m. before the games really get going 30 minutes later.
On the track, walks, runs, relays and wheelchair races will be held with field events consisting of softball toss, shot put and long jump.

Just a sixth-grader at Valley View Elementary, La Crescenta’s Michael Orozco has quite an opportunity in front of him as part of the FC Golden State Academy club soccer team.
FC Golden State’s U13 boys’ team will travel to Poland for the final rounds of the Volkswagen Junior Masters Tournament, beginning May 30 and concluding June 3, with June 1 set as the first day of actual play.
After advancing to the semifinals of a regional tournament, FC Golden State was awarded advancement after a finalist was unable to attend the National Finals at The Home Depot Center in November. Golden State prevailed to send Orozco and Co. to Poland.
The Volkswagen Junior Masters Tournament is a youth soccer tournament that began in 1999 and is set to feature teams from 16 countries, though Orozco’s team is the only scheduled United State representative.
HUH DOESN’T
MAKE CUT
Crescenta Valley High graduate John Huh finished in a six-way tie for 104th at the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, S.C. Huh, a rookie on the PGA Tour, failed to make the cut following the second round Friday.
Huh opened the event Thursday with a six-over-par 77 and followed with a 72 on Friday. Huh recorded 18 pars, six birdies, 11 bogeys and one double-bogey.
Carl Pettersson won the event by five strokes over Zach Johnson on Sunday.

ALL ALONE
For yet another week, the Flintridge Prep boys’ volleyball team is the only local team — in boys’ volleyball, baseball, softball or boys’ tennis — ranked in the CIF Southern Section top 10.
Prep is ranked seventh in Division V.
