Locals move on at Pacific League prelims

BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Pacific League prelims at Arcadia High: Numerous area athletes qualified for Friday’s upcoming Pacific League finals with top-nine, or in some events, top-12 performances on Friday.

Area winners included Glendale’s Michael Davis in the 100-meter dash (11.06 seconds) and 200 (22.08), Burroughs’ Anthony Monroy in the 1,600 (4:22.55) and Crescenta Valley’s Josh Strachewski in the 110 hurdles (15.75) and 300 hurdles (41.29).

Other qualifiers for CV were James Maturan in the 100 and 200, Hayden O’Burke in the 100, Justin Springfield in the 200 and 400, Alex Damla in the 400, Adam Akopyan in the 400, Mike Duncan in the 800 and 1,600, Nick Beatty in the 800, Aaron Esparza in the 800 and 1,600, Davit Shahamanyan, and Cody Heidenreich in the 110 hurdles and Mike Jaramillo in the 110 and 300 hurdles.

Burbank qualified Normando Cornejo in the 200, Arsen Mkrtchyan in the 800 and 1,600, Isaiah Amos-Nshimba and Chris Huezo in the 1,600 and Dennis Palacio in the 110 and 300 hurdles.

Burroughs qualifiers were Timmy Johnson in the 100, Andrew Carrillo in the 110 and 300 hurdles, while Glendale qualified Carlo Navarro Esperanza in the 200, Jeffrey Massin in the 400, Chris Canlas in the 800 and Tristan Pacba in the 110 and 300 hurdles.

Hoover qualified Jeremy Zadoorian in the 800.

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Pacific League prelims at Arcadia High: Numerous area athletes qualified for Friday’s upcoming Pacific League finals with top-nine, or in some events, top-12 performances on Friday.

Area winners included Burbank’s Julia Newton in the 100-meter dash in 13.03 seconds, CV’s Kayleigh Carrillo in the 200 (26.50) and the 400 (58.87) and Glendale’s Sophia Amodia in the 100 hurdles (16.66) and 300 hurdles (46.90).

Other qualifiers for CV were Noel Wong in the 100, Megan Melnyk in the 800 and 1,600, Cali King in the 800 and 1,600, Hannah Ruby in the 800, Brooke Moultrie in the 1,600 and Claudia Sepulveda in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

Glendale qualified Kenya Gaskin in the 100 and 200, Leana Setian in the 800 and 1,600 and Lauren Hansen in the 800.

Burbank’s qualifiers were Haley Pirruccello in the 100, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, Felicia Tomitsa in the 100 and 200, Newton in the 200, Kayla Martil and Keren Zepeda in the 400, CJ Chua and Allison Suchy in the 800 and Christina Shamirian and Griselda Pereyra in the 1,600.

For Burroughs, Gabby Piniero and Kayla Avila qualified in the 400, as did Gigi Chamberlain in the 800, Gracia Innocentia in the 1,600 and Giovanna Carrasco in the 100 and 300 hurdles.

Anna Rubino qualified in the 400 for Hoover.
